hi, there, i have a question. why don't you inform people about their works used in smashing articles?
i got known by an unknown person registered on deviantart that my photo's here. i'm not mad, i just think people would love to know that their pieces of art have been showed here (:

What did the license say ?
If it said free-use, no attribution, then you get no attribution.

You could try using Google Alerts (http://www.google.com/alerts). Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic. Just plug in your name and Google will email you new results.

Feed My Search (http://feedmysearch.com/) is a similar service, except it's on RSS.

As far as I know, these two only get the top results, so if you'd really like to find every mention of your work, it wouldn't hurt to search for yourself from time to time on Google Blog Search (http://blogsearch.google.com/).
