In need of Guidance

Postby justenough » Mon Nov 02, 2009 1:25 pm

Hello World
I am looking for some opinions on creating a portfolio site that mixes professional and personal content. My question is would you do it or would you keep the two separate?

I’m asking because I want to create a website to promote the development I do but I also want to show and talk about my other hobbies (cooking, family pics, blah blah blah). I’m really not looking to gain a lot of business from this site so I figure that instead of creating two sites, just find a way to combine them both. So… What do yall think.

Also, if you know of any sites that combine professional and personal content, please let me know.

Thanks

Hey justenough,

I think it's a great idea and a lot of people do it, having a client look through your (hopefully) awesome portfolio and then go on to read about your life and your family is a great way to create rapport with a potential client. They will realise you are a human being and treat you as such.

Same goes for if you are publishing tutorials on your portfolio, clients will see you teaching and know that you are an expert in your area from the techniques you teach!

Thanks adam.

I really feel like this is the best way for me to go. Hey, if you know of any sties of had could you post some links. I've looked at tons of portfolio sites and it seems most of them just stick to the professional side. I would just like to see the structure of a site that is a litte more than that.

Thanks again.
