Blogspot or Wordpress?

Postby khanate » Tue Sep 29, 2009 12:01 pm

I would like to make a blog/news/portfolio thing on my website and can't decide which one to use...
For example, I like to fact that you can follow other people through blogspot, and you can see when someone makes a new post, etc... never used Wordpress so dont know the advantages/disadvantages of it....

Could someone who is experienced in both compare these?

I'd pick Wordpress over Blogspot any day. There's just no comparison.

Wordpress, no doubt. If you want to follow some wordpress blog, just get the RSS feed with a reader.

Plus: More support, large supply of plugins, customization is quite easy, skinning even easier, easy but complete admin, etc..

Hey Khanate,

I'm another one backing Wordpress, quite possibly one of the best Content Management Systems for small/medium websites.

With Wordpress you'll have far more flexibility, not to mention the huge amount of brilliant plug-ins for it. I've also found it the most user-friendly CMS as of yet, being simple to use yet a powerful blogging tool at the same time.

Wordpress. There is a lot more flexibility and customization that can be done. I guess I am just one of many voices in this choir thought.

Yes, there are a couple ecommerce plugins for wordpress. I'm sure a web search will turn up some options, but here are a couple to glance at:

Small webshops should be easy, check the above post.

If you're looking for a more advanced e-commerce-CMS -> Magento

WordPress always wins this battle! I do have something to add that some other WordPress bloggers might miss. In terms of keeping up with other bloggers, you don't have to use the RSS feed if you don't want to. Once you have a WordPress blog you can subscribe to other WordPress blogs and view them by going to the Dashboard under Blog Surfer.

I will say some good things about Blogger too. Blogger blogs are very easy to set up and update. You just pick a template and start blogging. (WordPress has so many beautiful themes to choose from and so many widgets that you can spend hours looking through them). Blogger allows you to monetize your blog even if you are using the free version. The free version of WordPress does not allow ads.

I wish you well with your blog and please let us know which one you are going to use.

WordPress gets my vote. IMHO, the best blogging solution out there.

As for the ecommerce, I'd recommend shopp plugin for wordpress if you need to create some small store, but if you're looking for something to run lots of products and have various advanced functions, I'd go with WordPress + Magento integration.

Basically, I agree with @falkencreative and @RoosterEgg

Wordpress.

I already have to much blogs in it. It´s addictive.
I´ve tried to use blogspot about ten times before, but i always got bored.

What i love about wordpress is the way it allows for your blog to look like a website and not just like another "blogspot" blog. :D
