I'm having trouble with coming up with a solution to this design problem. I need an application that displays icons that feature a search function (hundreds of icons will be displayed) and the ability to comment on each individual icon. The comments also need the ability to upload images because the icons evolve over time. Also, there is a hierarchy to these icons where they are not all displayed under one page but under three different ones depending on their function. I'm using Wordpress as my CMS. Here are some solutions I have already come up with, but reasons why I chose not to use it so that maybe you can get a better idea about the situation:
*Upload each icon to a wordpress page
- Easy to comment and search
- Easy to edit so old images can be replaced with new ones
- Will have to manage hundreds of pages initially but once up and running, not much more work is involved.
- Idea rejected by manager
*WPShowroom/ Image Gallery
- Mass uploading and managing available
- No tag or search feature
- no way to upload images in a comment
*Forum Server
- Again, Individual uploads of each image and management of each topic
- Hot link rather than uploading images so we would need a place to initially store the images
- Ability to search
- Paid and free support for application
I don't know much PHP or Java and maybe you don't know the perfect app for this solution. I'm wondering if A) there IS in fact a perfect application that I'm overlooking and B) if there is an app out there that can be tweaked to fit this solution. I'm not a developer, but there are people here at work that are and can modify an application if need be. I just don't know enough to know what can and can't be done to an app.
