Cafe Order System

Postby Guy_CodeandColour » Wed Sep 23, 2009 7:36 pm

Hi Guys,

I have a client interested in setting up an online ordering system for his cafe. I am by no means a developer and have been looking at several store solutions (Shopify, Magento etc...) however I am not sure any of these systems will offer the functionality he is after.

The concept is;

Lunches will be sold online for a set price (e.g. £3)
Customer pics a sandwich, snack and a drink for this set price.
Customer then pays online for their lunch and it is delivered.

Is this something that could be done relatively easily without the need for a whole online store package? Or is there a package out there that could be tailored to these needs?

Thanks

Probably best write it from scratch, it wouldn't be too difficult. You could probably use a shop script but I think it would be a bit clumsy for what you need without stripping it back to the bone. Maybe there is some lightweight booking script on hotscripts or something you could adapt.

I guess you'd give every product a category so when they had something from category A, B and C then they could place an order, I guess then the cafe would be alerted via email or SMS.

I've written taxi booking systems before which I guess are similar, msg me if you need help.

Well, all you need is a list of food/drinks items, a page where the client places the order and a PayPal processing page. No need for a complete shopping system, right? 8-)

Hi,

I worked up a full system for this process. The concept revolved around customers ordering for collection rather than delivery but this would be a simple enough extension. Had to put it on hold just before going live as another project came up. The process was complete in that you could do the following:

1) Locate the shop you wanted to order from.
2) Browse the menu and add items you wanted to order.
3) Enter your details.
4) Shop received order by email or fax. They also received SMS notification.
5) Customer would collect & pay. I intended extending it to allow delivery.

Contact me if you would like to discuss this further.
