monitor colour profiles

Postby stevieg_83 » Mon Apr 27, 2009 6:20 pm

I recently cleared my machine back to having nothing.

Over the course of the weekend, I reinstalled essential programs.

I opened an old image and for some reason when selected in, it has discoloured considerably. Also when I go to export for the web it looks bad.

I don't know if this has something to do with my monitor calibration settings.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
S

In what program have you opened it? What operating system are you using? What type of picture is it (RGB, CMYK)? Give more details, we're not paranormal here to guess.

In Photoshop for example, you have to set your Colour Settings (inside Edit menu).

Open up Photoshop, go to Edit Menu/Color Settings. Try these settings to:

Working Spaces
RGB: Adobe RGB (1998) (larger RGB space color correction for a variety of different output devises)
CMYK: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 (Generic profile for printing press)
Gray: Dot Grain 20%
Spot: Dot Grain 20%

Color Management Policies
RGB: Preserve Embedded Profiles
CMYK: Preserve Embedded Profiles
Gray: Preserve Embedded Profiles

Click on the "More Options" button on the right hand size to expand. In Conversion Options for Intent choose Perceptual.

All these basic color settings are for color consistency. Also you can go to Adobe Bridge, Edit Menu/Creative Suite Color Settings. You can synchronize the whole Suite.

Hope it helps.

If you want precision, professional calibration. If you want "close enough", compare it to something (proof print, swatches, colour books).
