Postby christianbedoya1 » Sun Oct 11, 2009 8:39 pm

Hi. I have been taken some stills from these black and white movies and I was want to make the pictures bigger and I want to improve their quality. Any help? (I am still learning how to use photoshop...)

Here's a still i found online which is what I want http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg145/freshjuan1/Annex-SwansonGloriaSunsetBoulevard_.jpg

And this is how one of the stills i took look http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg145/freshjuan1/vlcsnap-2009-09-05-12h48m06s242.png

Thanks in advance.

Is that the full sized image, or just a smaller version of it?

I'm not sure how much you are going to be able to improve that, to be honest. You can probably tweak the curves to improve the contrast, but that's about all I can think of.

It's much easier to take out data out of an image than it is to add it in. If you have a lower quality image to begin with, there really isn't much Photoshop can do to improve it. Really hard for a program to add in data (details, ect) that isn't there to begin with. With that in mind, make sure that however you are taking these images (scanning/taking a photo) you are using your highest quality settings and have enough light to capture a quality image to work with.

Well actually I am taking "snapshots" with the dvd player and that's the biggest size the pictures come out in. i want to make them bigger but that's only going to lower the quality but thanks.

Ah. Probably the source image you are referencing in your first post ("Here's a still i found online which is what I want...") was either photographed using a high quality camera/movie screen, or the actual film was scanned into the computer.
