I think you prehaps want to go a bit more professional and have a larger budget but I made a very cheap quick setup for taking product shots.
One of my clients sells fire extinguishers and wanted me do take some photos of the cans to go on the website. Being cylindrical and shiny they looked pretty tricky to photograph and I've seen some horrendous versions on competitors websites.
I used my dining room table which has a briliant white ceiling over it. Surrounded it on all sides with thick white sheeting leaving about a foot gap above the sheets and a small gap to poke my camera lens through on one side. I then shone 4 250W spot lights on it that I had in my garage. I played around a bit bouncing a lot of the light off of the ceiling but also back-lighting the fabric behind the subject ensuring there were no obvious white spots on the product. I then just used Photoshop to cut the white background out.
My client was very pleased with the result. I think if the objects hadn't been shiny, the results would have been even better.
