View active topicsI've been looking at getting a DSLR for a while and am finally taking the plunge and went to my local photography store today. They recommended the Nikon D60 and said that it was the standard camera they sold to all newcomers to DSLRs (saying that the D40, which I was originally going to get, was limited).
Anyone have any advice or recommendations for me?

I think you will be very happy with D60. No point in getting more expensive body for a first DSLR. As for the brand choice, well, I'm a nikon guy so in my opinion that would be a good buy

I started on the d40, the d60 is the successor and a great first dSLR for you. Go for it.

I bought the D40x some time ago, with an extra 55-200mm lens, very happy about it. Since the D60 is a D40x with some updates, go for it..
