Introductions section?

Postby seanhimself » Tue Nov 10, 2009 11:30 am

Hey everyone. I just signed up and I figured I would introduce myself but I didn't see a section to do so. I think this would be a great idea to familiarize ourselves with who everyone is.

Thanks for the help. I'm used to forums having a section for introductions, not just a single thread. That way people can ask the person questions, etc. and it's easier to follow.

We do have one. It's called the Off Topic category ;)

I understand that. I guess you're missing the point here. Thanks, I don't need anymore help with this matter.

No, I get it. Just having some fun with ya :)

Either way, an introductions section would be one-sided and superfluous. The current sections are thought through and does an adequate job at categorising posts.

There's simply no need for additional categories.

It's good to give the users more attention. One person's introduction thread could be five pages long rather than one person saying "Hi. Welcome." It gets more interest going, more posts, more page loads which also means more ads showing (if there were ads).

First of all, you can already follow separate introduction threads in the Off Topic category, which I linked you to earlier. There's already 9 threads on the very first page and and plenty more on the rest.

Second of all, introducing another category wouldn't generate more revenue (assuming we had ads) since we already have a section which covers the activity. Simply moving half of the posts wouldn't contribute to anything.

And finally, we cannot go about changing our website structure just to fit people's likings. Especially when we already have categories already covering those areas of topics. New categories will only be introduced once the admins consider the existing ones insufficient for categorising posts.

It would generate more revenue if the ads would be loading more often. I say they would load more often because there would be more interaction if there were an introductions section. On many message boards, people routinely check the introductions thread to welcome new members. I run a few forums myself and I notice it's one of the most popular sections. I also don't think introductions should really be mixed in with Off-Topic threads. Introductions relate to the forum as a whole.

I'm not trying to argue or anything, I just merely thought an introductions section would be nice. :D
