BlumBlum -- The sound of a couple of frogs...

Postby antzfx » Sat Oct 24, 2009 2:34 pm

...jumping into the water, one after the other!

After some months of coding and designing, my brother and I launched http://www.blumblum.com. This website gives custom and free wedding invitation cards. It is in Beta Version now.

Please try it and tell me: "what can be improved in this website?"

Hi, is a nice concepts but your brother needs to work more on the background your brother using the green color told that he likes nature, as one day one boss told me (although i not a designer ) i like nature green color, horizontal lines, i need something that feels live, your brother needs to design something with life, plants as example, if it can put one person on the side, the border of the forms, don't be to serious use roundend boxes, and try to design something with out making view restriction limits, use complete forms.

Yeah the background makes it hard to read things, and consider using CSS of tables or at least remove table borders.

*I'm assuming your using tables.

Honestly, I had no idea what I was suppose to do when I came to your site. If it wasn't for you telling me it was about wedding stuff, I would have been clueless.

At the very least put a title at the top of the site or something that says your are doing custom invitation cards.

The main problem with the site is the use of green and plant graphics, which makes one think that the site is about gardening.

Combing the header and navigation and placing it in the centre of the grid is a bad idea, as it makes it very hard to identify. Like Amey said, I had no idea what the site was about, what the site was called or what I was supposed to do.

I would have a more traditional layout, with the header and navigation placed at the top.
The grid is a nice way of showing of the cards, but you need to make the squares bigger and show more of the card, so the user can instantly tell that they are wedding invites and not plants.

I replace the green background with a white one. That would eliminate the garden centre feeling. It would also allow the cards to standout more as the background would not be competing for attention.

Thank you for the replies...

@juancii -- In the earlier version, we used brown. We changed to green as the photos are from nature.

@Amey -- Yes, we are using tables (Now trying hard to get the same layout using <div> tabs!). Yes, people are at a loss when they visit the website for the first time. Our observation was that they randomly click on a thumbnail (even before the preview loads) and then get directed to the second page. Most people realize about the website then.
I know that this is a bad strategy as the bounce rates are also high.

@bigsmile -- Totally agree. Some people told me that it looks like a 'photo blog' website. At the moment, we are trying to bring out a traditional design with clear Header and Navigation panels without the use of tables.

Thanks again!
