Recommended Web host

Postby tlattimore » Tue Mar 03, 2009 7:48 pm

My church is considering switching our web host. I was wondering what the best solution would be for a good hosting company. We have a weekly sermon podcast so we at least 2Gb's of storage. And our podcast and Blog run on a mySQL database, so it would have to have that as a service as well.
Any suggestions?

I've run my own servers for years now so I'm not really in the loop when it comes to web hosting companies. I presume you are in USA so I would personally choose a 'big name' provider like liquidweb, theplanet, etc. and I think domain hosters like godaddy, enom etc. should be avoided...

There is a dedicated web hosting forum at http://www.webhostingtalk.com or you could try a hosting directory site like http://www.webhostdir.com/ but I'd be wary of the honesty of some of these directory sites as I think they tend to be heavily influenced by whichever affiliate pays the most.

Thanks for the input, yes I am in the US.
I have seen a lot of hosting sites around like godaddy, bluehost, enom, and others. I don't have any personal experience with them, but they seem kind of "gimmicky" when advertising "unlimited storage and bandwith". I will check out liquidweb and theplanet. I have seen mediatemple around a lot but have heard some complaints lately about them.

I seem to be saying this a lot....

There are a few great web hosts getting a lot of attention for being awesome at the moment, so you could look into these: Fused Network*, Clook and LiquidWeb.

* I now have a site on Fused Network, believe the hype, they're great. This is an affiliate link, not something I'd normally do and I will change it if people think it's inappropriate.

I've been using TotalChoice Hosting for years and they are reliable, great customer service and an active 'family forum', and you get a lot with small cost. They have a http://totalchoicehosting.com/
