Isn't their GS service based on a single point of failure, the HDD?

The past year or so, MT started getting really slow with any site that had a database. This held especially true for Wordpress based sites. Extremely slow! I was just about ready to switch over, but they keep their users in the loop. They were informing their users what was going on, and that they were in the process of upgrading their GS servers and system.

Now I find my speeds back to normal and everything working as it should with no noticeable downtime. I don't really have a huge audience though, so it's hard to say judging by my analytics.

Media Temple recommended a few things that have also really increased my response times.
I got the YSlow plugin for firebug/firefox, which gave some great tips on increasing site response times, including gzip compression and editing the expires headers on your site.

Still, it's no excuse for people's downtimes and reliability, it's my opinion that the service is getting back to their high standards as before. But time will tell.

Looking at the "In Partnership with Media Temple" Logo on every 5th website, I recently bought the Grid Service from MT. Well, its not too bad, nor too great either. There is a down time every week, yes almost every week. But the good thing is, they start work on that immediately. But still their speed is not really awesome for 200$ per year.

And many people complaining about their slow response time, they are true. But I have noticed since 2-3 days (after another downtime), that speed is back to normal.

I will recommend everyone to go for Exabytes.com. I have used them for over a year, and now I am again using their service for a few sites of mine. Their uptime is great so does their customer support.

And I will request the people from this platform, that please please don't stick the mediatemple.net logos on your site if you are using their GS service, unless you are really happy with them. That makes many people like me, buying hosting from them.
