Print Friendly

Postby taylor » Tue Jun 09, 2009 5:55 pm

Hi, this is Taylor from PrintFriendly.com.

We just launched a button/widget that improves the printing experience for readers.
Check it out on SmashingMag:
http://www.printfriendly.com/demo?url=h ... d-layouts/

It's better than print.css files, requires no development or maintenance, plus gives people additional features that help save paper and ink (money/environment). You can remove content and images and easily get a PDF.

We'd love it if you tried us out. It's free and easy to use.
Get button here: http://www.printfriendly.com/button

Your readers may also be interested in a post about it. Great way for sites to easily add print functionality

Keep up the great work. Love Smashing Mag!

I like your app, but I don't have any problems with print.css files either. They work just fine. Can you elaborate on why Printfriendly is better than CSS files a bit?
That's all, folks!

Awesome, glad you like it, and thanks for the chance to elaborate.

Here's 3 good reasons our Button is better than Print CSS Files
      1) We give people a cool Print Preview in a lightbox so they see exactly what they are printing.
      2) People can select and remove images and content not needed for their print. Sometimes you don't want to print all the images, or you only need a certain section. This helps people save additional paper and ink (which saves money and the environment)
      3) Get PDF. I know this is an option in Firefox/Safari but not IE. Plus lots of people don't know it's an option. We make it easy.

Printing is expensive, about $.10 per page (mixed media inkjet), plus hard on the environment. With PrintFriendly your readers will save paper and ink and they'll love you for that.

Check out this example of SmashingMagazine.com with and without PrintFriendly.

Without PrintFriendly: 25 Pages (ouch!)Image
With PrintFriendly: 13 Pages (I didn't even remove the images)Image

We'll also continue to launch new features that you and your readers will love. Plus you'll never have to worry about maintaining your print.css files again. How cool is that?

Thanks for the opportunity, we'd love to be your print utility!

One more thing, we'll give you reports so you'll know what pages are being printed.

We are also going to launch some cool features that benefit publishers. Would be happy to share the details with you, but don't want to do it in a public forum ;)
