Possibly, but I doubt it. I think the name is likely just a coincidence.

Smashingapps.com was created on 2007-12-10.
Smashingmagazine.com was created on 2006-08-25.

So both sites have been around for a little while.

Oh, yea, I saw that site too. I don't think it's a rip-off but it reminded me of Smashing Magazine, :) .

I wondered this, too. Both are in my RSS feed. I always sort of assumed that Smashing Apps was a spin off of Smashing Mag. Great content on both, though.

It's not related to Smashing Magazine or ripped in any way.

I mean look at the design, that can't be called a rip. And just having smashing in the name doesn't qualify it as a rip.
