FYI: I've noticed after the upgrade that in IE6 the text on each article is crunched to the left.

If you look at the original blog post when the new design was introduced, you'll notice there are quite a few comments from people saying there are issues in IE. Although I couldn't find an exact reference for this, I believe that IE6 is not supported in this design... primarily because Smashing Mag primarily targets web designers and other techies who should be running better browsers than IE6.
