I use EditPlus3. It's very simple and it uploads the file automatically to the server every time I save.

Eclipse is my primary editor. I have it setup for a PHP environment with syntax coloring, autocompletion and all that fun stuff.

I also use Notepad++.

I don't get why people recommend TextMate, I use TextWrangler plus it's free and it has FTP synchronizing.

I'm still looking, probably too hard,

VIM, with the mustang themehttp://hcalves.deviantart.com/art/Mustang-Vim-Colorscheme-98974484
Image
+Awesome macro support
+fast navigation, replacing searching, Moving,
+100% customizable
+More features than you could learn in a year.
+Fast loading time
+Tabs (hard to find but their there)
+Syntax highlighting works awesomely

-Goofy indenting
-no auto-complete (that I can find) (although I made a tag completion with macros)
-Big learning curve
-Folding is sort of goofy too
-No projects support

also use Notepad++ a lot of the time
+Folding is awesome
+tabs are good
+Fast loading
+Indenting works very well

-no projects support
-FTP doesn't work for me
-Bad sytax highlighting for pages with multiple languages

InType (somtimes)
+multi line typing is awsome
+The way it handles projects is awesome

-No folding

So far I'm not super convinced that any are the best one, but I'm also only using free ones.

I used to use Notepad++, then gedit, then Smultron, but now I use Coda.

Textmate 99% of the time, sometimes CSSEdit, vim if I have to.

I've tried using both Coda and Espresso, but I always fall back to Textmate after a short while. I think my brain is wired directly to Textmate macros. I've even set up scripts and such that let me use Textmate to edit files on remote servers over SSH.

Dreamweaver... I like it inputs more header information, such as a title and a style sheet, and document type information.

Notepad++ for life. Love the hotkeys, macro's and the indent guide!
I was on Dreamweaver first, but after a while I found myself using only the code view and that's when you realize you need some sort of hardcore code editor, no need for that silly design view that often cheats on you.

I use the great (mac) software from Panic.

Coda for Scripting, and Transmit for FTP. Works great on Mac!

PSPad on Windows - Free and seems to work nicely for all sorts of languages.
XMLSpy on Windows - If I'm doing XML related work.
Emacs or Oracle JDeveloper on Linux - I generally only do Java development there.
