What FTP software do you use?

Postby Ryan Williams » Sat Feb 21, 2009 12:12 pm

Working in this business, it's inevitable that most of us will be faced with the regular prospect of uploading files. So, what do you use?

I use SmartFTP, but haven't seriously considered any alternatives for years.
Do you like Monkey Island? What about Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, or Psychonauts? These games all have one thing in common: Tim Schafer. To check out his latest game, head over to BRUTAL! The Legendary Fan Site.

I also use FileZilla, but I'm looking for something new too, since I haven't been able to view .htaccess files on my server (I use those for friendly urls), my workaround is to edit the file via an adminpanel. Not a big deal, since I normally set up .htaccess only once. But still...

Plusside of FileZilla is that it is free!

I've always used SmartFTP and it was really great. But when the software told me that it's no longer free for private persons I've changed to another tool.
I found WinSCP and I really like it too. I like the SSH client in it.

I alternative between CuteFTP (Windows) and WinSCP. I've been using CuteFTP for about five years, and haven't really changed around. It's my familiarity with it, and the little tricks I know that I stick with it. :)

I'm another one using Panic's Transmit. Love it.

I used to use FileZilla on Windows. I switched to Mac before FileZilla was Mac compatible and remember months of angst looking for a replacement. Bought Transmit eventually. I still like FileZilla, especially now it works on a Mac, but I prefer Transmit, plus I've paid for it so I better use it!

In linux all files that start with the "." charcter are hidden by default. You need to set up filezilla to show hidden files:
