CSS & CMS

Postby one9ooh6 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:34 pm

Is it possible to apply any CSS template to any CMS specifically WordPress? I am a newbie to CMS...however, I see a template that I would like to edit and apply it to a CMS. I look forward to hearing back from anyone. Thanks!

Yes, it is possible, and really shouldn't be that difficult -- Wordpress theming isn't complicated, and there are a LOT of tutorials out there on that subject.

You will have to go through the process of modifying the current CSS-based template that you have to work with Wordpress, but watch/read a couple Wordpress tutorials and you should be on your way.

Both CSS-Tricks had a video on this exact subject recently (and I'm sure a web search or two will turn up other similar tutorials):

Some CMS are more complex than others, or more customizable.

Wordpress IS the best choice for a normal CMS, unless you want some really weird features, which Im sure could be developed for Wordpress anyway. Btw, with all the plugins available I think you will find everything you need for it.

My advice, to make a template (in CSS and XHTML) for Wordpress, would be to take the default template already included in Wordpress, and start editing that ;)

I would say that Joomla is a better CMS unless you are going to run a blog site.

Personally, I think that Joomla has made its time.
When Wordpress wasnt what it is now, Joomla was definitely the best choice, but as they developed it further, it grew heavier, more complex in terms of code and hardly customizable unless you really know it well.
With WP you only need to know html and php (and sometimes not even that, just copy code snippets), and you can make it do anything you want.
Just my opinion
