Cover design

I like the big red S--why not show it being compressed in a vise?

is there any specific width and length of the book?... I want to create a sample cover so that we can conceptualized more on your Big S idea... It is easier to create a concept if we can see a sample design, and from that sample design, we can make further revisions so that our book cover will get better and better.... ;)

Yes. Starting with a sample and then improving on it is recommended. And for that, it would be great, if we could have the Smashing Magazine font. And the true logos.

As everyone said here, nothing can be better than using the smashing "S" .

I would like to see a pure red cover, with UV printed "S" ( red on red ) and simple Title text at center.

i feel the big S design in the front but why so blant and plain? wheres the excitement in that? I would like to see wild colors and attractive objects that make me want to pick the book up and actually read it and be interested in it, not some boring book! this should be a book of opportunities and excitement, something that catches someone's eye and just pops

I suggest to make cover with tag cloud as Wordle do.

I agree on Static44, It should be more colorful and attractive, smashing magazine offers great designs and concepts in graphics, so why do we need to limit out ideas in plain colors only? I think the book should reflect the true SMASHING MAGAZINE.

I think it would be quite cool to see the cover of the book with a kind of wrapped paper effect with the a ripped out section in the middle showing the 'S'. Giving the impression that the 'S' is trying to explode out.

That's an interesting idea. The planned dimensions are approximately 8 x 5 inches.

I created my concept about the cover and it shows below:

Image

I knows it's not that perfect and I need your suggestions for further enhancement. I want an explosion effect on the big S that will look like it was smashed by a full force which causes some parts of the earth to scatter in outer space... but the explosion must be minimal because I'm afraid the big S will lost and the attention of the reader is on the explosion effect.

If you want to improve my concept, email me at markjoseph_monserrat@yahoo.com for the image source, I can't attached it in my post because it's 1.5 MB.

Note: to all who wants to modify the concept, please upload your source file or include your email address once you post it so that others can get it and modify your versions until we come up with a great book cover....

just a suggestion - why try to be something you aren't, I assume this book is intended to make some money so why not provide the cream of what the site does. I know this isn't artworked or particularly pretty but it reflects the site...

I think that Igor's tag cloud with red title "Smashing Book" instead gray is excellent idea

My suggestion is only idea. Of course, the cloud's design can be colourful, stylish and etc.
